This film is a great fun movie, however the disc itself was terrible - it must have been a cheap copy. The titles were wavering and the resolution was awful!
I would recommend buying a remastered version or the double disc version of this film. As it was, I threw this copy in the bin!
The film is great - a really fun swashbuckler and just as good as I remembered it. It's great to see this film uncut for the first time in the UK since it was in the cinemas - this 12 cert version is a full 18 years overdue!
Note though that this is the extended version of the film, with roughly an extra 12 minutes of footage. Personally, I'd have preferred the theatrical version - or the choice of both this is blu ray after all.
The transfer quality is not the best, but is perfectly adequate, and there's a decent selection of special features too.

Bei einem Budget von 50 Mio. US-Dollar lagen die Einnahmen weltweit bei fast Mio. Da Costner aber trotz Sprachtrainer zu schlecht im Imitieren war, entschieden sie beide dagegen.
Alan Rickman hatte die Rolle des Sheriffs von Nottingham in Robin Hood zweimal abgelehnt, bis ihm zugesichert wurde, dass er seinen Part komplett nach eigenem Ermessen spielen dürfe.
In Konsequenz wurden Rickmans Szenen in der Kinofassung sehr stark verkürzt oder sogar komplett herausgeschnitten, da er des öfteren vom Drehbuch abwich und ihm nachgesagt wurde, er habe Kevin Costner schauspielerisch alt aussehen lassen.

And I am guilty and proud of watching the Bryan Adams music video to death - it was ridiculous and I loved it.
Costner plays a great Robin and I think he portrayed the complex nature of Robin's character brilliantly. Freeman was hilarious and bad-ass, as usual.
He made a great and loyal friend and accomplice and I loved the banter between the two of them. A lot of people would describe this as a guilty pleasure, but I don't think that way at all.
I genuinely think this is a brilliant film and can't understand when people get all critical, particularly over the accents. From what I've read, American accents are a lot closer to what the old British accents would've sounded like, than our own modern British accents nowadays.
And I really liked the fact that nobody tried doing a British accent - it always ends up sounding ridiculous.
This, thankfully, was not a problem in this film and was just another reason why I loved it. Robin Hood is fun and action-packed throughout and you really get attached to all of the characters.
Plus, I loved the music in this not just Bryan Adams, but the actual score. Please, pass on the Russell Crowe version and pick this up - it'll be the best choice you'll ever make!
For some the Errol Flynn version is and will continue to be the quintessential Robin Hood film yet Kevin Costner and the late Alan Rickman put on a performance that could leave some room for doubt.
Yes there are dodgy accents, a delightfully over the top performance of the Sheriff of Nottingham courtesy of Alan Rickman and a maid Marion with a dodgy wig but on the whole the storyline is decent, plenty of action in the fight scenes and a smorgasbord of A-List actors backing them up.
The basic premise is Robin returning from the crusades after escaping near death with a fellow warrior in tow Morgan Freeman. Upon finding his father murdered and land burned at the hands of the sheriff, revenge is sworn.
This Blu-Ray contains the extended cut of the film which adds around minutes of footage to the theatrical cut. This mainly comprises of scene extensions and sub plots which were deemed to slow the pace of the film, certainly a welcome restoration as some cuts were kinda obvious on the cinema release such as the sheriffs aides lack of speech half way through, due to tongue removal.
Also on the disc are two features with the cast discussing the film, two audio commentary tracks, isolated music score and a live performance of the chart topping 'Everything I Do' from Bryan Adams.
The main feature's video and audio quality is very good and a welcome upgrade from DVD, extras are in standard definition but still good non the less.
This film came out during my teenage years and I've got great memories of watching it on VHS over and over again. There is little historical accuracy to pin on the whole legend of Robin Hood, but this film is all over the place for historical and geographical accuracy - but it's still a wonderful film despite this.
The American actors make poor attempts to try and be English, but again, that doesn't matter. This is just a great film with humour, action, love, friendship, bad guys, good guys, witches, Alan Rickman although Alan, what were you thinking in your death scene?!
The scenery is wonderful with wonderful UK locations used to make a wonderful backdrop. The Blu-ray extended cut and extras make for a great value disc and I have loved revisiting my teenage memories of this fab film.
Of course i've seen it before. Fast delivery, very good movie. Of course i've seen it before.. Kevin Costner may not be a british Robin Hood but i don't care about the accent, he delivers and i've found the entirely cast memorable!
I can not imagine a better Marian than Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio.. All the characters make this movie work.. To me ALL the characters are endearing and thats why i wanted to mention some of their names..

As Geordies the now famous "Sycamore Gap" on Hadrian's wall is a must see in the movie, it's one of the worlds most photographed trees thanks to the movie.
It's on chapter 6. Plus the movie is full of action with superb acting. My only down-side is that the DVD version The film was just as enjoyable as I remember from watching at the cinema years ago - a touch of humour added to some good-old swashbuckling.
No Oscar-winning performances, but taken with a considerable pinch of salt, a lot of fun. My only down-side is that the DVD version I ordered so that I could show it to my class at school does not stand up to being enlarged to a 50 inch TV at home.
It seems very grainy after becoming used to HD and blu-rays. Oh dear, this is what happens when you let the Yanks, particularly Hollywood, loose with an English legend.
