Deputy Tripet. Een plot dat compleet van de pot gerukt is, er wordt simpelweg nooit uitgelegd hoe heel dat Leprechaun gedoe eigenlijk in elkaar zit, en vooral een slechterik die zich door geen enkele wet van het realisme laat tegenhouden.
Iemand vermoorden met een pogostick? Met een speelgoedauto een jeep laten kantelen door er tegen 5km per uur tegen te rijden? Sowieso erg fijn om eens een film te zien waar de dame in het gezelschap figuurlijk ballen aan haar lijf heeft en de slechterik met volle macht te lijf gaat.
De titelrol is weggelegd voor Warwick Davis, die hier toch ook weer een geweldig personage op zijn conto mag schrijven. De Star Wars acteur heeft een tijd in de make-up stoel doorgebracht om zo goed mogelijk op een Ierse kabouter te lijken en het resultaat mag er zijn.
Flink wat geweld, een heerlijk accent en gewoon bijzonder veel fun. Gewoon een erg fijn personage dat best nog wel ass kickt. Ken Olandt is nog wel een leuk klankbord voor La Aniston en de rest van de cast stelt bitter weinig voor.
Zeker Mark Holton en Robert Gorman hadden van de eerste minuut uit de film mogen verdwijnen. Had dit niet verwacht eigenlijk.
De reeks kent een hele hoop sequels en zelfs al een reboot, dus daar moet ik ook maar eens naar op zoek. Ik vrees dat het verval al snel gaat starten al kun je met een Leprechaun in Space weinig verkeerd doen lijkt me , maar dat neemt niet weg dat dit eerste deel een erg fijne film is geworden.
Is mij beter bevallen dan verwacht. Ik vreesde dat het meer comedy ging zijn dan horror en dat het niveau kinderlijk zou zijn.
Neen hoor, de Leprechaun mag dan ludiek overkomen hij deinst er niet voor terug om op creatieve en nogal grafische manier te werk te gaan.
Onderhoudend, heb me niet verveelt. Ok de dialogen en het acteerwerk van de jongeren liet soms wat te wensen over ok geen kwaad woord over Jennifer Anniston die deed het heel goed en het duo Alex en Ozzie hun interacties waren nogal tenenkrommend.
Geen topfilm maar een ruime voldoende is op zijn plaats. Nog best aardig in elkaar gezet, met enige visuele verbeeldingskracht, maar toch vooral een filmpje dat je snel vergeet.
De Leprechaun is op zich een tof creatuurtje, en Davis lijkt zich er wel mee te vermaken, maar hij doet en zegt teveel van hetzelfde, waardoor het leuke er snel vanaf is.
